Police Launch Awareness Drive Against Online Financial Frauds

Salem District Police have intensified cybercrime awareness campaigns following an increase in complaints involving online financial fraud, phishing attempts, fake investment schemes, and digital payment scams. Police officials are educating residents about common cyber threats through awareness programmes conducted at educational institutions, government offices, and community centres.

The campaign advises citizens not to disclose banking credentials, OTPs, passwords, or personal information over phone calls or social media. Residents are also encouraged to verify online transactions carefully before making payments and report suspicious digital activities immediately through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.

Officials emphasised that early reporting significantly improves the chances of recovering lost funds and identifying offenders. Public awareness materials explaining safe online practices are being distributed across the district.

The initiative aims to strengthen digital security awareness as online financial transactions continue to increase across Salem district.
