The Salem City Municipal Corporation continues expanding its LED street lighting programme to improve road safety, reduce energy consumption, and enhance public convenience across urban areas. Older streetlights are being replaced with energy-efficient LED fixtures in residential colonies, major roads, and commercial zones.
Officials stated that the upgraded lighting system offers better visibility for motorists and pedestrians while significantly reducing electricity consumption and maintenance costs. Technical teams are also inspecting existing lighting infrastructure to identify faulty units requiring replacement.
Residents have welcomed the initiative, particularly in neighbourhoods where improved lighting enhances safety during evening hours. The Corporation has established mechanisms for reporting non-functional streetlights to facilitate quicker maintenance responses.
The project reflects Salem’s commitment to sustainable urban infrastructure and efficient municipal service delivery while creating safer public spaces for citizens.
